Mini TowerThis is the original 2012 OptiPlex 7010 (2nd/3rd gen Ivy Bridge era, Q77 chipset). Dell later reused the '7010' name in 2023 for an unrelated 13th gen Raptor Lake OptiPlex 7 7010, a different machine entirely. Mini Tower chassis: 275 W PSU, 1 PCI plus up to 3 PCIe x1 plus up to 2 PCIe x16 (full-height, full-size cards supported), 2x internal 3.5" and 2x internal 2.5" bays plus 2x external 5.25" bays, 4 DIMM slots. Largest chassis, most expansion room.
Desktop (DT)250 W PSU. PCIe 3.0 x16 plus PCIe 2.0 x16 (wired as x4) plus PCIe 2.0 x1 plus PCI. 3.5"/2.5" combo bay, separate 2.5" bay, slim 5.25" bay, 3 SATA ports. 4 DIMM slots, same 32 GB ceiling as Mini Tower.
Small Form Factor (SFF)240 W PSU. PCIe 3.0 x16 plus PCIe 2.0 x16 (wired as x4), low-profile cards only. 3.5"/2.5" combo bay, separate 2.5" bay, slim 5.25" bay, 3 SATA ports. 4 DIMM slots, same 32 GB ceiling.
Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF)200 W, 80 PLUS Gold external PSU. No PCIe x16 slot, only an mPCIe 2.0 slot used for a WiFi card, no discrete GPU support. 2.5" plus slim 5.25" bays, 2 SATA ports. Only 2 SO-DIMM slots, 16 GB max, half the other chassis. Smallest and quietest, weakest expansion.
Upgrade paths
RAM
32 GB (4 x 8 GB DDR3-1600, dual channel) on Mini Tower / Desktop / SFF; 16 GB (2 x 8 GB SO-DIMM) on USFF · Q77 chipset physically supports 32 GB across the 4-DIMM chassis. The USFF board only has two SO-DIMM slots, so it caps at half that.
~$40
EASYstorage
2.5" SATA SSD in any internal bay · SATA only, no NVMe on this generation of Q77 board. Mini Tower has the most bays; USFF has a single 2.5" bay plus the slim optical bay.
~$30
EASYGPU
Full-size PCIe x16 card (GTX 1650 class) in Mini Tower / Desktop; low-profile PCIe x16 card (GT 1030 class) in SFF; none in USFF · PSU headroom scales with chassis: 275 W in Mini Tower comfortably runs a mid-range card, 250 W Desktop and 240 W SFF push low-profile or bus-powered cards only, and the 200 W USFF has no PCIe x16 slot at all so it is locked to integrated graphics.

MODERATECPU
Core i7-3770 (3.4 GHz, quad-core, Ivy Bridge, LGA1155) · Socketed LGA1155 on the Q77 board, officially validated by Dell up to the i7-3770. The unlocked i7-3770K is not officially supported, the board has no multiplier control anyway.
