OtherOS (installable Linux) on launch 'Fat' models only · Early PS3 models shipped with an OtherOS option supporting installed Linux distributions. Sony removed the feature via firmware update 3.21 in 2010 (citing security concerns after the fail0verflow/geohot exploits), and it was never restored; only unpatched original firmware on launch hardware retains it.
